A Mother’s Day Reflection on ‘Home’
Monday, May 9, 2011 at 4:55PM
I spent Mother's Day gardening, for the most part, and hanging out at home. It was lovely, and reminded me why what I do for a living is so important. All of us have lived somewhere in our lives and no matter how simple or grand the setting, 'home' is critically important to defining who we are, who we will become. Those of us fortunate enough to have a home that meets our basic needs should remember to spend time in that dwelling being grateful and sharing it with others. Any luxury beyond the basic is, as they say, icing on the cake. Those of us who do not have a home that best suits us must remember that the right place is usually where our loved ones are and no other place much matters. And those of us charged with helping folks move from one place to another must be humble gatekeepers. Because what we do is open the door. What they do is make a place a home.
