Discovery Chronicles Chicago Street Life

Former Chicago REALTOR® John Maloof is in the news concerning another passion: one woman's street photography of 1950s and '60s Chicago.

Looking for historic photos of his own Portage Park neighborhood to write a book, Maloof unwittingly bought at auction a wealth of negatives taken by a little-known Chicago nanny named Vivian Maier. After putting many of his own hours and dollars into sorting the photos, Maloof is excited enough about them to want to share. The photos are the subject of a Chicago Cultural Center exhibit, a Chicago Sun-Times article and a "Chicago Tonight" segment. For starters.

The exhibit, "Finding Vivian Maier, Chicago Street Photographer," is free and open from Jan. 7 to April 3. Check it out. Thanks to Maloof for showcasing Chicago's personality in yet another engaging way.
