How Easy it is to Get Caught Up in Blogging about Blago

As we at C.A.R. try to stimulate conversation in our new Chicago REALTORS Blog, one aspiration I have is to work with our leadership and staff to provide content and thought-provoking dialogue on an array of matters related to our business. The recent charges and allegations brought against Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich remind us of the importance of ongoing review of our own government, and more importantly, our responsibility to the communities we serve to be more active, locally, and help create the change we're in need of. Sure, the infuriation of the recent allegations resonate with us all like nothing in recent history. And, regardless of how they are resolved, these events have once again put our city and state in a hot seat no one ever aspires to be in. But what we do about it might matter more than how we communicate our frustration. Yes, blogs, op-eds, editorials, etc., across the country have all dedicated characters upon characters of text and rhetoric to rip on a matter we still know little about. I challenge you to, instead, seize this opportunity to embrace your own passion and discover what you might be able to do to make a difference. How can you help put first-time homebuyers into homes, help an investor start their new business venture, and continue to work with clients to realize their dreams?
See, you are the pipeline to change. Blogging about Blago and his alleged inappropriate behavior may be great; but what are you going to do about it? Our blog and our membership is about more than that. Chicago REALTORS are players in their communities with drive, networks and influence to help shape the issues we face, daily.
Don't lose sight of the bigger picture--we at the association are here to help you, our members, prosper. Go out there and do what you do best: show 'em what we're made of. Movers, shakers--dream makers, too. Blago will come and go, but it's your passion for our industry and our great city that truly will help heal all wounds, and will only make us stronger.
