REALTORS Eat Their Young!
Friday, November 21, 2008 at 7:31PM
I think I have your attention. They don’t eat their young (not that I know of), but….. they do eat their hands when it come to their industry. WE are our own worst enemy. How, you ask? Here’s how...
When NAR, IAR, and C.A.R. reach out to their members through a call to action due to critical legislation and rulings that can impact OUR/THE industry, or response is just "okay"... Then the word on the street is "they" (the associations) don’t support us, or else how could they have let that legislation pass?
In this past year, there have been several calls to action. Currently there is a call to action on a Four-Point housing stimulus plan; NAR says that less than 10% of the membership respond to calls to action--how many did you respond to?. For there to be effective policy changes that positively impact OUR industry, there must be a collective response so big and so loud that it simply cannot be ignored. We stand at the gate, protecting property rights for all. The only way we can protect those rights is by supporting each other and by responding in LARGE. This way, the gate is fortified.
President Dave Hanna recently posted on the C.A.R. Blog "Art of the Sale and Social Action", a worthy read. I extend this to "Social Action and the Future of Real Estate." We can learn from the best and the best has shown us the power of the individual, when fused together and united, gets a lot accomplished.
Visit the C.A.R. Web site and click on the "Advocacy" tab to find out about Issues and Legislation and what NAR and IAR Government Affairs are up to--and, most importantly, how YOU can help.
Let's rock this nation, get involved, and start shaping the future of real estate--the future of REALTORS--and keep the dream alive and healthy for all.
What REALTOR policy initiatives and calls to action have you participated in?

Mabel you scared me there for a moment!
I sometimes think we "eat or would like to eat each other", which I think is just as scary as not supporting advocacy issues through the Realtors Associations
with government and Washington.... I always thought we (the real estate community) are all in this together....
And supporting the deeds in relation to new laws and new rules whether city, state or fed. government is one part of course.... Sometimes I have to admit that
I do not get the full impact some of these advocacy issues entail, for me as the
individual Realtor, but that aside I can ask and get informed - that's my new goal for 2009 YOU ENCOURAGED ME!
But then is our cooperation amongst each other, working together showing the
buying and selling public our expertise, professionalism and good will to provide the BEST FOR THE BUYING AND SELLING PUBLIC.....
I think giving Realtors a 'GOOD NAME' should be on top of the Real Estate Associations and each and every Agent can and must do their own.....
My slogan is BEST SERVICE TO THE CLIENTS - ANY TIME, EVERY TIME
ALL THE TIME.....
And I think a good part of our success as a whole is to show the public
our dedication to our profession and our pride in it.... Let's stop complaining what a terrible job it is......
Oh well just my thoughts...
But you blog will make me be 100 % responsive to calls to action. Thanks
for the article.

Most insightful blog. The title is a little provocative though. There are routinely 60,000+ homes for sale in the Chicago area. Through research I have found that on average it takes about 70 days to sell a home in Chicago. I hope the forecast you predict won't be as bad as all that. But fingers crossed always.
